The Backside
Continuing with the anatomy theme, we now look at Italian words for the other side, namely the backside. First up is culo [COO-loh], which means ass or anus. Culo can also mean luck.
Guarda il culo!
Look at that ass!
Che culo!
How lucky!
Avere culo
To be lucky
Faccia da culo
Butt-ugly
(lit. face of ass)
Prendere qualcuno per il culo
To make a fool out of someone
The Italian word for shit (as a noun) is merda [MEHR-dah], though it is not used as often as in English.
Pezzo di merda
Piece of shit
Siamo nella merda.
We’re in the shit.
Basta con questa merda!
Enough of this shit!
Che giornata di merda!
What a shitty day!
Stronzo [STROHN-zoh] literally means turd, but when used in reference to a
person, it means asshole or bastard. So Che stronzo! means What an asshole!
We saw that the noun form of shit is merda, but what about in the verb form (to shit)? That would be cagare [cah-GAH-reh].
